My neighbor came over the other day to tell me her husband had lost his job in a layoff. My heart sank.
I had seen his car in the driveway for a week, but didn't think anything of it. Well, I did have one thought. His company let him work from home on Fridays, so my only thought was: How nice that they're letting him work from home more often.
I know exactly how our neighbors are feeling. My husband lost his job three years ago. He was out of work through a long, desparate summer and fall. As the end of unemployment compensation neared, our panic rose.
I wrote about the experience almost immediately, even before I knew how our story would end. My article was published this month. You can read it here.
For now, we're doing all we can to help our neighbors. They're lovely folks who don't deserve this. Who among us does? I hope that soon his driveway will be empty and his work life full.
